how to make burger buns

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup warm milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
Sesame seeds (optional)

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm water, warm milk, softened butter, and egg.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour, until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 8 equal pieces.
Shape each piece into a ball and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them at least 2 inches apart.
Cover the buns with a clean towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the buns with an egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the buns are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
